First there was Ted Nugent. Then Foghat. (Okay, that was just an ugly rumor.) Now there’s a new right-wing band to vying for the hearts and minds of America ’s youth: Junkyard Prophet.

But, instead of trying to beg its way onto MTV to build its audience, this band is performing directly inside of America’s high schools.

Oh, and the federal government is footing the bill.
That’s right. Over the last few years, a band called Junkyard Prophet (through its youth outreach organization, You Can Run But You Cannot Hide) has been touring across Middle America, spewing its ultra-conservative message at hundreds of school assemblies along the way. And it’s received hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars for its efforts.

Worth reading the whole story - propaganda being jammed down the throats of our young, who are being prepared for programming by NCLB.

There's a little kerfuffle inside the Democratic Senate caucus over John Kerry's insistance in being part of the official party response to Bush's hilarious "plan" in Iraq. Reid originally had designated Sen. Jack Reed to provide the official response. Reed did the "prebuttal" yesterday and had a press conference set up for today.

However, John Kerry stomped over Reed by deciding he was going to hold a press conference this morning as well in a naked bid to steal the limelight. Eventually, Reid was forced to combine the two press conferences to try and maintain a unified Senate Democrat response, but Kerry's antics have generated some ill will.

Much ado about nothing? Perhaps. But several DC Democrats I've spoken to today were not happy with Kerry's antics. And given 1) Kerry's continued inability to clearly articulate a coherent position on the war (as Feldman notes), and 2) the fact that Kerry voted for it (while Reed did not), it's not hard to see why.

Agents and lawmakers are concerned because the uniforms for agents charged with combating illegal immigration are were made in Mexico. Congressman, John Carter of Round Rock, Texas says he thinks the uniforms could easily be used by terrorists to enter the country. Customs officials say strict security measures are in place, including on-site inspections at the Mexican plant. Read more from News 8 Austin.

Miami police announced Monday they will stage random shows of force at hotels, banks and other public places to keep terrorists guessing and remind people to be vigilant.

Deputy Police Chief Frank Fernandez said officers might, for example, surround a bank building, check the IDs of everyone going in and out and hand out leaflets about terror threats.

Police Chief John Timoney said there was no specific, credible threat of an imminent terror attack in Miami. But he said the city has repeatedly been mentioned in intelligence reports as a potential target.

Both uniformed and plainclothes police will ride buses and trains, while others will conduct longer-term surveillance operations.

"People are definitely going to notice it," Fernandez said. "We want that shock. We want that awe. But at the same time, we don't want people to feel their rights are being threatened. We need them to be our eyes and ears."

More countries are preparing withdrawal plans, or planning to implement withdrawal plans, this coming new year. The obvious growing disgust from the American people aimed at the failing Bush Administration is quite clearly the crux of the argument forcing our arrogant war monger President to publically inform we the people of the ogoing actions overseas. The Administrtion is coming to grips with the fact the world population realizes the Bush/Cheney plan to firmly insert the Radical Islamic Shiite Fundamentalist Iranian backed gumment in Iraq. This same overwhelming American disdain will help support leaders in other countries to get out of the unpopular, questionable war.

Japan eyes mid-2006 pullout from Iraq

TOKYO (AFP) - Japan plans to pull its troops from Iraq in mid-2006 but will formally extend the historic mission until next December to give it room to decide the exact withdrawal time.

Japan is considering May as the date to end the military deployment, Tokyo's first since World War II to a nation where fighting is underway, Kyodo News reported Wednesday.

It said the government Wednesday told a ruling party leader that the two-year-old mission, which is due to end on December 14, will be extended by a full year to give the government more leeway on the time of withdrawal.

Japan is forced to make a decision on the domestically unpopular deployment at a time when the United States, its close ally, is hearing mounting calls for a quick pullout from Iraq.

The Mainichi Shimbun newspaper said the government decided on the withdrawal timetable due to the uncertain security situation in Iraq but on the assumption that the country's new government will be operating smoothly by late 2006.

Jiji Press reported earlier that Japan plans to keep deliberating on when to end its troop deployment even after extending the mission for a year.

Japanese troops, who are barred from combat under the US-imposed 1947 constitution, have not suffered any casualties or even fired a shot in their deployment in the relatively safe southern Iraqi city of Samawa.

The reconstruction mission has been seen as a way for the pacifist nation to exert global clout beyond being an aid donor.

The ruling Liberal Democratic Party on November 22 proposed the first ever revision of the constitution that would recognize Japan has a military, paving the way for more peacekeeping operations overseas.

Yeah, that is one comfy looking bed. The last tate to refuse $$$ from the Feds for abstinance only sex ed is our neighbor Maine. Stateline.org has an article that shows how skewed this type of subjective, tax payer funded "education" can be. In part:

Maine has stepped out of the collection line of states getting federal money to help subsidize sex education, joining California and Pennsylvania in saying, “No, thanks.”

Citing a potential conflict with a 2002 state law that mandates teaching teenagers everything from self-restraint to contraception, Maine declined about $160,000 in federal money for fiscal 2006.

Maine would have had to pitch in about $120,000 had it accepted the federal money, and it would have had to focus sex education programs financed by the money on abstinence exclusively.

The state also refused to allow Heritage of Maine, a nonprofit, abstinence-education group, to put on its programs in Maine public schools. Heritage’s programs, which are financed with a three-year, $1.5 million federal grant, are instead being conducted only in private schools.

Maine’s decision to just say no to the just say no-ers ended seven years of involvement in the federal grant program. The state had previously used the money to fund an ad campaign that encouraged teen abstinence and parental involvement in their children’s choices regarding sex.


My question is why on Earth are my tax $$$ being sent to any type of religious group, even if it is being used to "educate". Here it is, a GRANT is still your $$$. Check the story States abstain from federal sex ed money here. Quite interesting...

This pic is obviously a closed door from a house built before the Civil War. Representative Righty Bill Remick watched the last pieces of siding personally installed on the front during the barrage of cannon fire in the little known Battle of Lancaster. The racist Right flourishes here and Remick is a card carrying member. Bill is the consumate Righty party boy and showed me just where he stands with democracy and ballot access. I had a chance meeting with the Righty Bigot Remick just now at the local McDonalds and ask him polititely to sign one of my required 750 ballot nomination papers. This dickhead said "That would be political suicide for me and you should run as a Republican or Democrat. Work hard and get on the ballot." As I then retrieved a signed petition from Remicks democratic minded pal, I proceeded to tell the Right handed shit bag Remick that I no longer felt any respect for him and his single minded views of democracy. Now you might say that didn't earn me any points but screw it. The likes of Remick, Mears and the rest of the establishment elitist party robots, State Reps that make the rules and keep the alternative, unafilliated from ballot access sickens me. My victory using the truth and the facts and shoe leather will be all the more sweet when I jam those nomination papers in the faces of the obdurate, narrow minded party hacks like Mears and Remick. Yummy. The closed door will be opened and I aim to open that door (nice connection and segue don't you think???) to get some much needed fresh ideas and change to the closed minded occupants of your Granite Block House. Now, more signatures...

RISE UP!!!

Ruy Teixeira's Donkey Rising site . . . posted a summary of the current standing of the two parties on major issues. It's mostly good news--in some cases spectacular news--for us Donkeys, but with a few exceptions that deserve attention, especially in terms of our credibility in fighting terror and the clarity of our overall message.

On this last point, Ruy concludes:

In short, voters are still much surer of what they don't like (Republican policies and Bush's job as president) than of what they might like (Democratic policies and leadership). It's up to Democrats to clarify that situation, starting with, finally, convincing the American public they know what they stand for.

That's true, but we all have to remember one very important thing about "message clarity": the only thing worse than leaving voters unsure about "what you stand for" is to resolve their doubts by "standing" for positions and/or values they don't like.

. . . You could make a good case that the current GOP meltdown is partly the result of an "our team" mentality that until recently has thwarted any real intra-party Republican debate, or any honest Republican discussion with the rest of the country. I'm perfectly happy to sacrifice a few points in polls on "message clarity" in order to keep my party from following this authoritarian pattern.

I found this little gem when I put DFNH back on my faves. ( I am still scared in limbo after my campaign manager and I had the dreaded CHAZ interview-YIKES!!!) It seems old Righty Goats like Gallus and his ilk can perform their public service and be away from their offices, but still make mad cash on the backs of their underlings. Me, if I am not banging nails, I am not getting paid. I am good with that since I sooo want to represent the working peeps. Someone like Representative Scott-Action Superhero- Merrick is on a fixed budget for time, cash, sleep, and all the while avoiding the bad peer pressure from Righty dregs such as John-Budman-Ward and Chris-Bash the old hag up-Doyle. In part:

"These are really volunteer jobs. Period. This is about public service," says state Sen. John Gallus, 62. A Realtor, Gallus works nights and weekends so he can afford to stay in the Senate. (Yeah, thanks Mr. Fair Representative Senator and There for the People;(ed.))

At 20, Rep. Scott Merrick ( did I say wahooo!!!) is the youngest member of either chamber. He divides his time between committee work and classes at Tufts University outside Boston. His parents support him.
"I don't sleep a whole lot. I have to budget my time," says Merrick, a political science major.
Merrick, in his first two-year term, hopes to serve one more before he focuses strictly on studies and making a living.
"I do not regret doing this. The experience has been absolutely amazing. You can't learn this in a classroom," he says.
Even so, Merrick would like to see New Hampshire lawmakers paid enough so more people could participate.


Like Burling, Senate President Ted Gatsas, 55, is wealthy and does not expect to be well-paid. He does not expect legislative pay to increase anytime soon. First, 60 percent of the Legislature would have to approve putting a constitutional amendment on the ballot — which two-thirds of voters then would have to approve. Pay-raise proposals have failed repeatedly over the years.

I hope you get my point. It is not about being well paid but getting the real people in touch with the real people they represent. If more could afford this tawdry binnez of politics, we would not be in the Rgighty shit hole we are in now. The Righty rich retired prehistoric goats have the lock on your State House and further right to the highest levels of gumment and the courts. Did I mention I am still a working stiff and not independently wealthy, just INDEPENDENT???

In an era when unions typically face frustration and failure in attracting workers in the private sector, the Service Employees International Union is bringing in 5,000 janitors from several companies at once. With work force experts saying that unions face a slow death unless they can figure out how to organize private-sector workers in big bunches, labor leaders are looking to the Houston campaign as a model.

The service employees, which led a breakaway of four unions from the A.F.L.-C.I.O. last summer, has used several unusual tactics in Houston, among them lining up the support of religious leaders, pension funds and the city's mayor, Bill White, a Democrat. Making the effort even more unusual has been the union's success in a state that has long been hostile to labor.

"It's the largest unionization campaign in the South in years," said Julius Getman, a labor law professor at the University of Texas. "Other unions will say, 'Yes, it can be done here.' "

Mr. Getman predicted that the Houston effort would embolden other unions to take their chances with ambitious drives in the South, although success could prove difficult because many companies will continue to fight unionization efforts, and many workers still shy away from unions.

SEI told the AFL-CIO that they needed to stop pissing away so much of the union dues on lobbying in Washington and put it in to recruiting and expanding union members. The business-as-usual [failure-as-usual] old guard AFL-CIO leadership did not want to hear that. So SEI LEFT and lead other more forward thinking unions out the door with them. This was widely sighted as a horrible development. That unions were "eating themselves".

Perhaps we are now seeing a clearer picture of what was going on within the unions. Should SEIU have placidly allowed AFL-CIO to continue their conventional but FAILED approach to organizing? Should SEIU have remained under the leadership that had presided of the collapse of the union movement?

Now we see that perhaps it was the AFL-CIO leadership that should have adopted and accepted the new ideas of the SEIU. Imagine how much more could have been accomplished if the entire AFL-CIO had abandoned the failure policy of their old guard and adopted something like the SEIU's approach.

It is important to note that SEIU was VERY successful at organizing new members when they were apart of the AFL-CIO. THEY had a record of success which the AFL-CIO chose to ignore.

Never underestimate the stubbornness of entrenched leadership to cling to their outmoded and ineffective ideas to the bitter end.

A "trophy" video appearing to show security guards in Baghdad randomly shooting Iraqi civilians has sparked two investigations after it was posted on the internet, the Sunday Telegraph can reveal.

The video has sparked concern that private security companies, which are not subject to any form of regulation either in Britain or in Iraq, could be responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent Iraqis.

According to the Telegraph reporter, the video is even set to music: "Mystery Train", by Elvis Presley.
